KATIE MANNING

Open to work

I’m Katie, a product strategist and user–cultural researcher focused on how design and product strategy shape confidence, decision‑making, and what people feel safe handing over to a system. Much of my work sits at the intersection of trust, safety, and choice: how systems influence what people feel confident doing (or not doing).

More broadly, I aim to shape innovation that respects human limits and expands human agency, grounded in the belief that trust is not a feature but a relationship that must be continually earned.

Over the last few years, I’ve shaped search and AI experiences at Microsoft, worked on prescription and benefits navigation at Evernorth, and built a 3x award‑winning product that helps survivors share their experiences and find support through a private, validating‑by‑default chat system.

I bring together product thinking, research depth, and design craft to help teams move from ambiguity to clarity and deliver outcomes that genuinely support the people who rely on them.

I collaborate best with curious, opinionated teams who want their products to be both effective and ethical—and who are willing to look closely at the "big picture" their decisions create and evolving world their product lives.

Outside of work, I write about technology and culture and chase good light with a camera.

The work I do sits mostly upstream of execution. I help teams frame problems, pressure‑test assumptions, and make evidence‑based product decisions. That means pairing research with strategy and using design exploration to make futures tangible enough for teams to debate and commit to.”

What's Next Lab

What’s Next Lab is my independent practice at the intersection of technology, culture, and society. I partner with teams , startups, and orgs on product strategy, research, and trust‑centered experiences; especially where AI, user trust, and high stakes decision‑making under uncertainty are in play.

If you’re working in that space and need a thoughtful sparring partner, I’d love to hear what you’re building.

I’m open to senior product and research roles, as well as a limited number of freelance and early‑stage startup collaborations. If you’re working on something in this space and need a thoughtful co‑conspirator, you can reach me at hello@katiemanning.net.
