0→1 launch of Grocery shopping vertical and mini-app for mSN Shopping Team

Category: E-Commerce

Delivery: Mobile app, desktop, and entry point strategy

Role: Product Design / UX Research / New Product Launch Strategy

Launched June 2021

BACKGROUND

A grocery savings experience built into Bing and MSN that lets everyday shoppers find and redeem digital coupons inside the search browser and dedicated grocery shopping vertical. I served as the sole product designer and researcher on this project, taking Microsoft's shopping space from 0-1.

It shipped to one of the world’s largest search and content audiences (Bing reached 1B+ monthly visitors) and brought national CPG offers to consumers at the exact moment they were looking for value.

HUMAN TRUTH

Price-conscious shoppers were already trained on a simple mental model: type in your phone number at checkout, and any clipped or eligible savings just apply. That was our real competition—the effortless feeling of “I enter my number and it just works.”

Online, the reality was far messier.

CONTRIBUTIONS

I led the product design process across research, UX, and delivery.

I worked closely with product managers and engineers to balance user needs with technical and business realities. Together we made intentional design tradeoffs: simplifying how we presented complex coupon and data logic, prioritizing clarity over maximum exposure of offers, and ensuring the end-to-end experience—from discovery to clipping to checkout—felt coherent and reliable.

Launched June 2021, The Grocery Vertical Brought National-Brand Coupon Savings From Partners Like: P&G, Clorox, And General Mills, Into Bing And MSN, Putting Everyday Value In Front Of Shoppers At The Moment Of Intent.
