Intro
When someone, or some piece of media, is trying to persuade me (and a CEO’s public manifesto is always trying to persuade something) I find it more useful to catch my own reactions as they happen to then file a tidy verdict at the end. So that’s what this is.
Below is Mark Zuckerberg’s “The Future is for Everyone” memo, reproduced in full (i.e. copied and pasted close to the entire thing here). You will find highlights and gray block quotes as my notes throughout: the places I paused, contested, wanted clarity, or noticed the rhetoric doing work. Read much of the black text as his; read the gray as me thinking out loud beside it.
